Applying too many sun protection layers just felt heavy

Trying to layer my sun protection

I’ve been stuck in this habit of trying to layer my sun protection products lately. I saw a comment somewhere suggesting a specific order—starting with a control sun stick and then topping it off with a tone-up cream. The specific products I was playing around with were the Objet Pore Zero Control Sun Stick and the D’Alba White Truffle Waterfull Tone-Up Sun Cream. Honestly, it felt a bit excessive once I actually did it. I kept wondering if I was just wasting product or if my skin was actually breathing underneath all that.

The texture issues on my forehead

When I tried using the D’Alba stick-to-cream method, the immediate problem wasn’t the coverage—it was the finish. My forehead felt oddly tacky, almost like there was a physical film sitting on top of my skin that refused to settle. I had initially thought that using a stick to prime the pores first would make the tone-up cream glide on better, but in practice, it just caused the cream to pill slightly in the creases near my nose. It’s annoying because you spend time making sure you’re protected, but then you look in the mirror and see little white bits collecting in your pores. I think I paid around 25,000 to 30,000 won for these items, and it’s frustrating when they don’t play nice together.

Waiting times and the morning rush

Some people online say you should wait ten minutes between layers. Honestly, who has ten minutes in the morning before work? I tried waiting for about three minutes one day, and even then, the second layer didn’t seem to sit right. It’s not like I’m going out in the desert; I’m just walking to the office or running errands. The whole process turned into a chore that I started dreading. If the goal is to prevent aging, it feels counterproductive if I’m just rubbing at my face trying to fix the texture every time I move.

Comparing to simple options

I’ve looked at other options, like just using a single, slightly more expensive sunscreen that does both the tone-up and the pore blurring, but I’m still stuck with these half-used tubes. I keep thinking maybe I’m using too much of the stick. If I go lighter with the initial layer, maybe the second one won’t feel so heavy? I tried that yesterday, and it felt slightly better, but then I worry I’m not getting the full SPF benefit. It’s this weird internal conflict between wanting to be protected and wanting to feel like my face isn’t encased in plastic.

Still unsure about the layering strategy

I still see these products being pushed everywhere, from duty-free shops to online marketplaces, and sometimes I wonder if the layering advice is just a way to get people to buy more types of products. The market for these seems endless right now, with everything from stick-based kombucha to specialized sun creams, but my daily routine just feels more complicated than it needs to be. I’m not sure if I’ll continue this dual-layer approach. Maybe I’ll just stick to one reliable base and stop overcomplicating things, but for now, I’m just dealing with the remnants of this experiment on my bathroom vanity.
